Winter is tough on lips and with Valentine’s Day around the corner (or Galantine’s Day too) we are thinking about how to get our pouts to a perfect pucker. Yes, we love alliteration. But seriously ask any makeup artist about how to get a gorgeous smile and they will say smooth, hydrated lips are the foundation for long-lasting lip color. Here are a couple of ways you can help your lips look and feel their best all winter.
- Exfoliate your lips: Use a lip scrub (you can easily make your own with brown sugar, olive oil and a dash of your favorite essential oil) or by rubbing a travel toothbrush once or twice a week over your lips to get rid of any dead skin.
- Don’t lick your lips: This sounds a little gross but you have digestive enzymes and bacteria present in saliva. Plus that moisture evaporates into the dry and cold air, making your lips become even drier.
- Protect Your Lips: Reach for a beeswax lip balm or a salve like Paw Paw Ointment to protect them. It is important to lock in moisture and form a protective barrier so that your lips remain healthy
- Wear Sunscreen: yes even on your lips as in bright, cold and dry winter weather the sun can do even more damage
