#FridayReads: Written on The Body by Jeanette Winterson

written-on-the-bodyNeed something a little more engrossing for your weekend reads? We’re going back to a classic romance that has shades of science fiction wrapped inside a very erotic lyrical meditation. That’s right we are suggesting a high brow romance novel this Friday. No shame in this game. Written on the Body by Jeanette Winterson isn’t new but it is timeless. The New York Time’s review says

“Written on the Body” is an ambitious work, at once a love story and a philosophical meditation on the body as both physical entity and objective correlative of our innermost selves, our bodies as our embodiment. The narrator, unnamed, sex undeclared, chronicles the arc of an affair with a married woman named Louise. The result is a work that is consistently revelatory about the phenomenon of love.

It is beguilingly, seductive  and consuming. Plus if you like it Winterson has two other novels to keep you occupied this August. You are most welcome!
