#FridayReads: Marie Kondo’s Spark Joy

MarieKondoChances are if you follow, well, just about any media you heard about the major breakout hit The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. She is a Japanese organizing consultant that took the world by storm with her simple methods for making your life a little bit less cluttered.  The TL:DR on her method? If something doesn’t spark joy toss it out! You should definitely read the entire book even if the basics of her method are easy enough for a quick blog synopsis.

The exciting news is that she is back with a second book that makes it even easier than ever to adopt her methods with, an illustrated guide to her acclaimed KonMari Method. Seriously it has gems like step-by-step folding illustrations for everything from shirts to socks, plus drawings of perfectly organized drawers and closets.

If you enjoy organization porn (and let’s be real anyone who likes a visit to the Container Store has fantasies about a perfectly decluttered life) then this book is going to spark joy for you. We hope someone does a deeper dive into the idea of sparking joy and how it impacts what we buy, store, keep and ultimately discard in our lives.  But until then we will settle for awesome illustrations and DIYs on how to achieve the KonMari mindset in our own lives.
