And that’s not all:
Mary also co-founded her own consultancy for social media and art direction, moonlights as a style contributor for Refinery29 and The Today Show, and generally rules the world.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Was there a moment that made you realize that you wanted to be in the fashion/beauty industry?
I’m 5 foot 10 and never knew how to apply makeup as a teen. I felt like I stuck out in Ohio so when I found a world I thought I could contribute to AND learn from, I was toast.
What does beauty mean to you?
Having confidence that doesn’t rely on someone else’s opinion. One day I woke up and decided that’s it, from here on out I give zero effs when people go negative. I went from being accused by strangers of having an eating disorder as a super skinny child (my dad is tall and skinny) to working in an industry that rewarded that same weight. Both lines of thinking are at the minimum misinformed. What I value now is remaining honest about my interest in physical beauty while respecting the body and mind. This made me a kinder person which is the best way to be beautiful, I think.
If you could pack up and start fresh in a brand new country, where would you go?
Oooh. I love this question! England… specifically London.
What’s your daily beauty uniform?
Stowaway concealer, mascara, rms beauty Living Luminizer on the cheek bones, cocoa butter, (lip to cheek stain if I’m feeling feisty), pure rose water—boom.
