“The fear of what other people think is the single most paralyzing dynamic in business and in life.”
Advertising executive turned consultant, activist, entrepreneur, inspiring public speaker, and so much more. You could call her a lot of things, but Cindy Gallop doesn’t care much for titles.
In fact, she says the single best moment of her life is when she no longer gave a damn what people thought of her and says the fear of what others think is the most paralyzing thing in life. We couldn’t agree more. Cindy is passionate about many things but happiness and well, sex, is at the very top of her list. She founded MakeLoveNotPorn when she realized that the pornography industry has become the default for sex education. She wants to change our conflicted attitudes around the word, the act, and how we view and talk about it. Props to Cindy to tackling sextech in a major way, it’s not an easy egg to crack, but we have faith that if anyone is going to move things forward, it’s this woman. Quoting her own words, she likes to blow sh*t up, she’s the Michael Bay of business. (Note: if you aren’t familiar with the term, we suggest you search for the hashtag #sextech on twitter to get a sense of the excitement around this topic.)
Being in a particularly challenging startup, Cindy doesn’t travel much for fun but, instead, seeks pleasure in the destinations she goes to for work—her favorites include trips to London, Tokyo, and Shanghai. Cindy says she keeps Beautiful Anywhere while on the move with three simple things (ahh, a minimalist after our own hearts) eyeliner, lipstick, and a comb. And, this is why we love Cindy.
To sum up Cindy’s total badassery, Cannes Lion announced the launch of the “The Glass Lion: The Lion for Change” which is an award to recognize work that challenges gender bias and shatters stereotypical images of men and women which remain rooted in marketing messages and Cindy (of course!) was appointed jury president. This woman is never NOT being amazing. Speaking of gender biases, she told us that she recently spoke at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in London and found all the women from different industries at the top of their games in attendance super inspiring and made her think, “now I finally know what men must feel like at conferences all the time.”
